Our final day was a beautiful, bittersweet balance of witnessing local ministry and saying goodbye to the families who became our own this week.
We began the day visiting local programs that empower the community:
Unshackled Markets: Witnessed the incredible handiwork of women learning vocational skills.
Riley’s Preschool: A moving visit to a small school built in honor of a young man’s legacy of service in this area. The kids love it when Gringos visit.
Taellor’s House: Toured an impressive preschool and after-school program.
For the first time, we navigated a bustling city market followed by a celebratory lunch filled with laughter and Central American appetizers. We ended our city excursion with ice cream at the mall, admiring the energy of the city.
The highlight—and the hardest part—was saying goodbye to our families. Despite language barriers, we shared deep laughter, stories, and prayers during our last small group time.
We presented the families with the stoves that we purchased for them. After a quick demonstration, there were cheers, photos, and many tears. We love this organization because the work doesn't stop when we leave. Another team arrives in mere hours to continue sharing the Gospel. It proves to these families the relentless love of Jesus.
We ended our night with an extended cabana time, exhausted but overflowing with gratitude to God and one another. This week, we experienced the "pain of loving deeply"—a pain that is entirely worth it to see God at work.
